Meta Faces Regulatory Scrutiny and Legal Challenges in Europe Over Advertising Practices
France's competition regulator has accused Meta of abusing its dominant position in the online advertising market. The allegations center on opaque, discriminatory, and unfair terms limiting access to ad verification partnerships. Meta retains the right to respond before any final determination is made.
French media giants TF1, France TV, and BFM TV have filed lawsuits alleging Meta's market dominance stems from illegal data collection and targeted advertising practices. This follows an April case brought by 67 media companies representing 200 publications in Paris.
Parallel legal troubles emerge in Spain, where Meta faces a €551 million lawsuit from over 80 media outlets accusing the company of unfair advertising competition. The trial is set for October.
